The S&P 500 dropped 1.2% to 1,846.34, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 231.19 points, or 1.4%, to 16,108.89.

While a solid U.S. jobless claims number helped boost U.S. markets this morning, international concerns are coming to the fore once again. Tensions in the Ukraine are escalating– Russia is said to have 200,000 troops at ready and is reported to be readying itself for Iran-like sanctions–while China’s industrial production rose just 8.6% in January and February, down from a 9.7% increase in December. And though largely forgotten, all this turmoil comes against a backdrop of monetary policy uncertainty in the US.

Advisors' Opinion:

Three weeks ago, I recommended Real Goods Solar, Inc. (NASDAQ:RSOL) as a buy. Though the stock was still drifting in the shadow of a huge May pullback - from a high of $7.17 to a low of $2.13 by mid-June - RSOL was finding some support at key moving average lines, and even pushing up and off of them. Not many of you (and I'm using "you" interchangeably with "investors in general") seemed to care. So why am I looking at Real Goods Solar again now? Because, with competitors LDK Solar Co., Ltd (NYSE:LDK) and ReneSola Ltd. (NYSE:SOL) seeing their shares surge today, odds are good RSOL is going to get swept up in that move. Real Goods Solar shares are a better bet, however, in that - unlike SOL and LDK - they aren't overbought yet.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Dan Carroll]

China's companies now have even less wiggle room to operate, considering lending's either expensive or hard to come by. As investment flows out of the country, unstable companies won't survive, even with government support. Solar-power company Suntech Power's (NYSE: STP  ) recent bankruptcy is an early sign of things to come. Suntech was the first Chinese solar-power company to go public when it hit the market in 2005, and generous public subsidies helped propel its growth. With money tightening across the country, Suntech's questionable business practices sank it -- the first of what could be more troubles to come for weaker Chinese company.

We admittedly bought into China Automotive Systems (CAAS) too soon. The stock is still down from our original recommendation price, but the future looks very bright.

    Earnings announcements
Looking ahead, Baidu (NASDAQ: BIDU  ) and New York Community Bancorp (NYSE: NYCB  ) will unveil their own earnings reports today. Baidu may be halfway around the world from the Dow, but as with many Dow components, the Chinese search engine's results are tied to emerging-economy growth. Shares are up 33% in the past three months despite signs of a slowing Chinese economy, and analysts have high expectations for 39% sales growth (although they're willing to let profit edge down 2%).

Baidu, Inc. (NASDAQ: BIDU) is likely one of the key reasons that Bitcoin has been able to rise handily and gain more adoption. After all, when the largest search engine site in China started accepting Bitcoin payments it was a mark of adoption. Now we have word that Baidu is suspending the acceptance of Bitcoin for payments.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Roberto Pedone]

NetEase (NTES), through its subsidiaries, operates in online games, Internet portal and e-mail and wireless value-added services businesses in the People's Republic of China. This stock closed up 1.5% at $85 in Wednesday's trading session.

    Wednesday's Volume: 806,000

    Three-Month Average Volume: 356,752

    Volume % Change: 122%

From a technical perspective, NTES trended modestly higher here right above some near-term support at $81.42 with above-average volume. This stock has been downtrending over the last month and change, with shares moving lower from its high of $90.77 to its recent low of $81.42. During that downtrend, shares of NTES have making mostly lower highs and lower lows, which is bearish technical price action. That said, shares of NTES have now started to rebound off that $81.42 low and it's quickly moving within range of triggering a near-term breakout trade. That trade will hit if NTES manages to take out its 50-day moving average of $86.28 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in NTES as long as it's trending above Wednesday's intraday low of $82.65 or above more near-term support at $81.42 and then once it sustains a move or close above its 50-day at $86.28 with volume that hits near or above 356,752 shares. If that breakout kicks off soon, then NTES will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $90.08 to $90.77, or even its 52-week high at $91.06. Any high-volume move above its 52-week high at $91.06 will then give NTES a chance to make a run at $95 to $100.
